Course Overview
Unarmed Response is the hands-on follow-up to Active Threat Awareness. This full-day, in-person training equips your safety team, ushers, and greeters with the practical skills to manage disruptive individuals, de-escalate tense situations, and physically respond when necessary.
Using proven frameworks like the 4 C's and the 3-Step De-Escalation Process, participants practice real scenarios they may encounter during services and events. Every technique is taught with church environments specifically in mind.
Curriculum
Practical, scenario-based training that builds real-world confidence.
Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and communication protocols for your safety team. Learn how to structure coverage across your facility during services and events.
Develop a consistent pre-service briefing routine that ensures every team member is aligned on assignments, known concerns, and communication channels before doors open.
Master the 4 C's framework: Control the environment, Contain the situation, make Contact with the individual, and maintain Communication with your team throughout.
Learn the three critical steps: Validate the person's feelings, Find Options that address their needs, and Allow Choice so they maintain dignity. Practice with realistic role-play scenarios.
When de-escalation fails, know how to physically intervene safely. Learn control holds, blocking techniques, and team-based physical response methods designed for church settings.
Practice safe, respectful escorting techniques for removing disruptive individuals from the premises. Learn proper hand placement, verbal commands, and team positioning.
Apply the Run-Hide-Fight framework in hands-on exercises specific to your facility layout. Practice guiding congregation members during an active threat scenario.
Train for what happens after an incident: securing the scene, accounting for all people, coordinating with law enforcement, and managing the emotional aftermath for your team.
